New Year’s Eve is a holiday when the world is able to say farewell to the old year and welcome in a fresh new one. People from all over the globe countdown the clock to midnight, revel in colorful fireworks as they cross the skies and sing in unison to Auld Lang Syne during parties everywhere.
The first country to ring in a new year is Tonga and the last one to celebrate is American Samoa. New Year’s Eve is a big event in several parts of the world such as Times Square in New York City and Trafalgar Square, which is located in London, England. However, the holiday is popular in other areas as well. In Edinburgh, the holiday is an end to a five day long festival. The city of lights, Las Vegas, closes the strip to vehicles and Fremont Street hosts a colossal street part that includes concerts, confetti and gambling. Also, a light show timed to music is held in the dome above the historical Las Vegas location.
The city of Cape Town, located in South Africa, attempts to outdo Mardi Gras during their New Year’s Eve Celebration with dancers dressed in elaborate costumes, music and parades. The crowds who are counting down in Barcelona, Spain for the New Year’s Eve party dance all night long. The popular places to celebrate in Barcelona, are the Gothic Quarter and in Las Ramblas.
This year New Year’s Eve party can be enjoyed in Australia, because of the city’s famous fireworks display, which can be an affordable trip with cheap flights. Bonfires are lit in Rejkjavik, Iceland, for the worldwide party and after the fire is enjoyed people go downtown for an all-night gala.
Incredible firework displays are also held in Prague, Paris, Austin and Bangkok. Lucky New Year’s Eve revelers who are at Niagara Falls will be awarded with a remarkable fireworks show that light up the falls. After the show a party is held with musicians, champagne and food.
New Year’s Eve is a holiday celebrated throughout the world and picking a city to commemorate the big day in will be challenge worth taking.
